The Talk. They Hear You. Campaign is a federal campaign through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) aimed at reducing underage drinking among youth ages 9 to 15 by providing parents and caregivers with information and resources they need to start addressing the issue of alcohol with their children early and often. The Campaign website provides informational PSAs, a downloadable, interactive phone app, brochures, and much more.
TAKE BACK DAYS
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. There are two days a year that are sponsored by the DEA, one in April and one in October. SAFE promotes 10 drug drop boxes around the county that are open year round. Most are 24/7, however, some have set times.
RED RIBBON
This is a national drug awareness campaign through the National Family Partnership. The Red Ribbon Week Campaign started in 1985. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. Every year from October 23-31, schools around the nation participate in drug awareness activities in honor of Red Ribbon Week. Locally, SAFE hosts a Red Ribbon Poster contest for Lake County’s youth, for more information about the contest, please email us.
